Crepidula fornicata

The shell is called Crepidula fornicata, or American slipper limpet. It is found usually on the Atlantic coast of North America but some were introduced to England in the 19th century, with imported oysters from Holland, and the species has now spread along the south coast and into the Bristol channel. Elsewhere it has spread to Denmark as well as the French Atlantic coast.

I don’t think they are eaten. The knobbly bits on the top are worm casts.

The marble is from an island in the Caribbean, called Marble Island.
